To get a head start in the scholarship search game, many students - including high school juniors - begin searching for scholarships before their senior year in high school. High school junior scholarships can range from $500 awards to full-ride scholarships.

In addition to the many easy scholarships for which many students may qualify and apply, there are certainly large-dollar scholarships for high school juniors which are more competitive and have more scholarship application requirements. Microsoft Imagine Cup Global Competition

Award Amount: $100,000
Deadline: May 31
Scholarship Description: The Microsoft Imagine Cup Global Competition is a skill-based Competition, open to students around the world and looking for the most innovative, ground-breaking and appealing software built with Microsoft tools and technology. You must be at least 16 years of age as of October 24 to enter, actively enrolled as a student an accredited educational institution that grants high-school or college/university (or equivalent) degrees (including home schools).

Doodle 4 Google Competition

Award Amount: $30,000
Deadline: March 13
Scholarship Description: Use your imagination to create a Google Doodle based on what kindness means to you for this year's Doodle 4 Google Competition. Students can work with any materials they want, but all doodles must be entered using the entry form. Must submit the completed entry form or submit it online as a .png, or .jpg. Doodles will be grouped and judged based on 5 grade groups. Awards will be given in the following categories: state and territory winners; national finalists and the national winner.

A Voice for Animals Contest

Award Amount: $500

Scholarship Description: Scholarship applicants for the "A Voice for Animals Contest" must currently be attending middle or high school, or be home-schooled and under 19 years of age on the date the contest opens for entries. Project Yellow Light/Hunter Garner Billboard Design Scholarship

Award Amount: $2,000
Deadline: March 1
Scholarship Description: We want to see your personal expression come through on your billboard design through the Project Yellow Light/Hunter Garner Billboard Design Scholarship. Create a design to warn your peers of the dangers of texting and driving. In addition to the scholarship, the winning designs may be placed on billboards across the country.

Science Without Borders Challenge Scholarship

Award Amount: $500
Deadline: April 20
Scholarship Description: The Science without Borders Challenge was created to get students and teachers interested in ocean conservation through various forms of art. The Science Without Borders Challenge Scholarship is open to primary and secondary school students 11-19 years old, with scholarships of up to $500 awarded to the winning entries.

MathWorks Math Modeling (M3) Challenge

Award Amount: $20,000
Deadline: February 21
Scholarship Description: The MathWorks Math Modeling (M3) Challenge Scholarship is a contest for high school juniors and seniors. Students experience what it's like to work as a team to tackle a real-world problem under time and resource constraints, akin to those faced by professional mathematicians working in industry. The Challenge awards $100,000. Teams must be comprised of three to five students and one teacher-coach and a maximum of two teams per high school may register.

National High School Essay Contest

Award Amount: $2,500
Deadline: April 6
Scholarship Description: The National High School Essay Contest engages high school students in learning and writing about issues of peace and conflict, encouraging appreciation for diplomacy's role in building partnerships that can advance peace-building and protect national security. The National High School Essay Contes scholarship is available to all high school students attending school in the U.S.

National Stop The Bleed Day Scholarship (National Level)

Award Amount: $3,000
Deadline: April 21
Scholarship Description: Are you a high school student? You can help yourself and help your school by a) making a 1 to 2 minute video or b) writing an essay from 250 to 500 words addressing one of the listed topic areas. Don't Text and Drive Scholarship

Award Amount: $1,000
Deadline: September 30
Scholarship Description: The purpose of the Don't Text and Drive Scholarship is to help you understand the risks of texting while driving. You must be a high school student or a current undergrad or graduate school student of any level. Home-schooled students are also eligible. You must also be a U.S. citizen or legal resident. The winner will be selected based on the content and creativity of the 500- to 1,000-word essay about texting while driving.
