Lockheed Martin launched the STEM Scholarship Program in 2018 as part of investment in the next generation of STEM talent. We are committed to providing access to pathways through education and into the STEM workforce for all students, particularly those from diverse backgrounds and communities historically underrepresented in STEM fields. Each year, the STEM Scholarship Program awards $10,000 to 200 recipients studying engineering or computer science at a 4-year college or university. Recipients may renew the scholarship up to three times for a total potential value of $40,000 per student.
In supporting women and students of color, the Joseph S. Murphy Scholarship for Diversity in Labor program seeks to make a significant contribution toward redressing existing imbalances in these fields. Each year since 2013, the City University of New York has supported the Joseph S. Murphy Scholarship for Diversity in Labor program by providing an annual challenge-grant. In combination with outside donations, this financial commitment provides scholarships to students pursuing undergraduate and graduate degrees at the CUNY School of Labor and Urban Studies. The scholarship is named after Joseph S. Murphy, a former Chancellor of the City University of New York and a pioneer in supporting Labor Studies at the University.
The “Women on Par” Scholarship Program, provided by the LPGA Foundation, was established in 2007 by the EWGA Foundation (now the LPGA Amateur Golf Association) to provide financial assistance to “non-traditional” female students. These scholarships are intended for women, aged 30 and older, who are attending a college or university for the first time or returning to school after an absence to complete their technical/vocational, Associate, or Bachelor’s degree. The scholarships are designed to help these women get “on par,” or get an equal footing, with their peers, friends, and other women who have had a chance to complete their college education.
The Whelan Foundation’s mission is to award grants to support the higher educational goals of its recipients. It is our goal to equalize opportunities for recipients on Long Island that are normally denied them because of cost. Award amount is up to $80,000 - $20,000 per year ($10,000 per semester) for up to four years. Students must be at least graduating high school seniors from Long Island who are enrolling as a full-time student at an accredited college/university in the United States, or continuing education to pursue a degree in the field of special education, occupational therapy, speech pathology, or other behavioral-focused majors.
To support black youth and veterans pursuing STEM degrees through higher education, United Way of South Hampton Roads’ African American Leadership Society created the STEM Scholarship Program funded by USAA. This initiative is designed to provide scholarship and academic support for African American high school students and veterans who aspire to earn STEM degrees and pursue careers in the STEM field. The program enables highly capable young people and veteran adult students to pursue undergraduate STEM majors and prepares them for successful careers in a variety of STEM professions. The application is open to high school seniors and veterans entering college as first-time freshmen in the fall or the spring of the year the award is offered.
