This generation knows just how important recycling is, but we did some digging, and we fear some of us might be losing the plot. Did you know 73% of the US have access to recycling, yet only 43% of households are participating? We can do better. If we were to fully recycle the 20 million tons of household recyclables that are thrown in the trash, we would reduce U.S. greenhouse gas emissions by 96 million metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent. We’d achieve the same effect as taking more than 20 million cars off U.S. highways – all from recycling!
It’s time to DoSomething about it. Together, we can hit 1 goal: getting recycling to 100%
Collect and recycle 50 plastic bottles in your community (roughly the equivalent of 1lb of plastic) to reduce waste from landfills and plastic pollution.
Together, we can meet our goal of keeping 75,000 plastic bottles out of landfills and waste.
If we recycle 1 ton of plastic, that saves approximately 7,000 gallons of gasoline that would have been used to create new bottles from raw materials (that’s 50,000 plastic bottles!)
Collect and recycle a minimum of 50 plastic bottles (roughly the equivalent of 1lb of plastic), and you could earn volunteer credits and a $1,000 scholarship!
