Scholarship Description

The American Legion awards between $22,000 and $25,000 in scholarships to deserving baseball players each year. Each Department Baseball Committee may select a player from its department to receive this scholarship. The American Legion will award several scholarships each year depending on the number of applicants and interest earned from the trust fund.

Scholarship Details

  • Eight All-Academic Team members receive an additional $2,500 scholarship
  • One outstanding All-Academic Team member receives an additional $5,000 scholarship
  • Department awardees retain their initial $500 award even if selected for additional scholarships
  • Scholarship funds can be used upon high school graduation and must be utilized within eight years, not counting active military service

Eligibility Criteria

  • Must be a baseball player selected by a Department Baseball Committee
  • Must be a certified Department Baseball Scholarship Winner
  • All-Academic Team selection is based on performance and recommendation at the American Legion World Series
  • Must graduate from an accredited high school to access scholarship funds

Application Process

  1. Participate in American Legion Baseball within your department
  2. Be nominated by your Department Baseball Committee for the $500 scholarship
  3. If selected, your application will be considered for the All-Academic Team
  4. Attend the American Legion World Series to be eligible for national-level scholarship awards
  5. Upon high school graduation, claim your scholarship and use it within eight years (excluding time spent in active military service)

Scholarship recipients will be eligible to receive their scholarships immediately upon graduation from an accredited high school. Scholarship winners must utilize the total award within eight (8) years of their graduation date, excluding active military time.
