The Society of Lake Management professionals (SLMP) is seeking applications for its annual Student Scholarship Award. SLMP intends to award $6,000 (1st- $3,000, 2nd - $2,000 and 3rd - $1,000) in scholarships to the top three successful applicants at the January SLMP Summit that will take place in January at the Hard Rock Hotel in Daytona Beach, Florida. Scholarship funds are provided directly to the student and may be used by the recipient to cover costs associated with education, project/research expenses.
Scholarship Details
- Total of $6,000 awarded to top three applicants
- 1st place: $3,000, 2nd place: $2,000, 3rd place: $1,000
- Funds may be used for education or project/research expenses
- Top three finalists receive free summit registration and 3 nights of hotel stay
- Winners are assigned mentors and will present at the SLMP Summit
- Additional grants may be awarded to promising projects
Eligibility Criteria
- Full-time undergraduate or graduate students at accredited U.S. institutions
- Applicants from technical schools and 2-year programs are also welcome
- Projects must relate to water quality, equipment innovation, limnology, aquatic plant management, aquaculture, fisheries, or aquatic ecology of private waters
- Applicants should be interested in careers in the lake management industry
Application Process
- Write a document describing your project and its relevance to lake management
- Include a proposed budget and clearly defined goals and outcomes
- Submit the names and contact info for three references familiar with your project
- Email your complete application via email by December 16th
- Top three applicants will be notified and invited to present at the SLMP Summit in Myrtle Beach
- Final placement will be determined in part by your summit presentation
