Scholarship Description

The Applegate-Jackson-Parks Future Teacher Scholarship honors three Michigan public school teachers who were fired for no other reason than their refusal to pay union dues. One $1,000 scholarship is awarded annually to the education student who best exemplifies the dedication to the Right to Work principles and the high professional standards of Carol Applegate, Kay Jackson, and Dr. Anne Parks.

Scholarship Details

  • $1,000 scholarship awarded annually
  • Open to undergraduate and graduate students majoring in education
  • Funds can be used at any accredited U.S. institution of higher learning

Eligibility Criteria

  • Must be an undergraduate or graduate student with a declared major in education
  • Must be enrolled in an accredited U.S. college or university
  • Not open to high school students or undeclared undergraduates
  • Employees, officers, and directors of NILRR, the National Right to Work Committee, and Selection Review Committee members and their families are ineligible

Application Process

  1. Visit the National Institute for Labor Relations Research website
  2. Access and complete the online scholarship application form
  3. Submit required documentation as outlined on the application portal

The scholarship is awarded based on scholastic ability and a demonstrated interest in the National Institute of Labor Relations Research’s work. Note that if you win, you will be required to submit (or you can have your school send on your behalf) a copy of your official transcript to the National Institute for Labor Relations Research at the end of the academic school year for which the funds are disbursed.
