The AREMA Educational Foundation provides scholarships to engineering students who are specializing in the railway industry and supports other educational and training endeavors that help to ensure the future of the profession.
Scholarship Details
- Multiple scholarships awarded for the coming academic year
- Available to both undergraduate and graduate engineering students
- Applicants are considered for all scholarships through a single application
Eligibility Criteria
- Must be enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate engineering or engineering technology program
- Program must be accredited by ABET or an equivalent accreditation body in Canada or Mexico
- Minimum GPA of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale required
- Must be a current AREMA Student Member (membership is free)
- Applicants will be judged in separate pools for undergraduate and graduate students
Application Process
- Apply for complimentary AREMA Student Membership if not already a member
- Access and complete the online scholarship application form
- Submit a personal statement (up to 350 words) explaining your interest in railroading, career goals, and why you deserve the scholarship
- Submit a brief work history (up to 350 words)
- Provide a summary of extracurricular activities or outside interests (up to 150 words)
- Provide current GPA
- Submit contact information for two references who may be contacted by the selection committee
A scholarship committee appointed by AREMA Committee 24 - Education & Training, will base its evaluation for awards on material submitted. Successful applicants will be informed of awards in March. Only one scholarship is awarded per qualified applicant.
