Scholarship Description

The AIST Foundation Trade School Scholarship Program supports students pursuing two-year degrees or certificates at accredited trade schools or community colleges who are preparing for careers in the iron and steel industry. Awards are paired with a required work-based learning placement at a steel-producing or steel-related company.

Scholarship Details

  • Supports students pursuing two-year degrees, diplomas, or certificates at accredited U.S. trade schools or community colleges
  • Up to 10 scholarships are awarded annually
  • Each scholarship provides a one-year award of $2,600
  • Includes a paid FAME USA-affiliated internship, apprenticeship, or work-based learning placement with a steel-producing company or steel industry supplier

Eligibility Criteria

  • Must be pursuing a two-year associate degree, diploma, or certificate at an accredited U.S. trade school or community college
  • Must be enrolled at least half-time during the scholarship period
  • Must be a United States citizen
  • Must maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale or equivalent
  • Must be willing and able to relocate or commute if required for the assigned work-based learning placement
  • Must receive a satisfactory performance evaluation from the participating employer
  • Must be enrolled in a program related to careers in the iron and steel industry, such as welding, machining, industrial maintenance, manufacturing technology, mechatronics, automation, process technology, metallurgy, engineering technology, operations engineering, or industrial safety

Application Process

  1. Complete the AIST Foundation Trade School Scholarship application before the June 30th deadline
  2. Prepare application materials demonstrating your interest in a career within the iron and steel industry
  3. Submit the required essay describing your career goals and interest in steel manufacturing or related fields
  4. Obtain and submit the required recommendation materials
  5. Provide evidence of relevant technical skills, hands-on experience, or educational preparation
  6. If selected, accept and complete the assigned paid FAME USA-affiliated internship, apprenticeship, or work-based learning placement
  7. Maintain satisfactory academic standing and successfully complete the work-based learning experience to remain eligible for scholarship funding

Applicants must submit the documents in PDF format. Recognizing that many applicants may be current high school students or currently enrolled in their first year of technical training, materials will be reviewed in the context of the applicant’s educational stage and available experience.
