The BAEF encourages application for Fellowships to talented Belgian individuals in the early years at each stage of their education. Every year, BAEF offers more than 65 Fellowships to Belgian students and researchers. This will allow you to pursue your studies, or research projects at your chosen US university or research center.
Fellowship Details
- More than 65 fellowships are awarded annually
- Graduate Fellowships support two-year master's degree programs in the United States
- Graduate Fellowships provide up to $72,000 during the first year and up to $40,000 for the second year, subject to academic performance
- Research Fellowships provide a non-renewable grant of $35,000 for 12 months
- Research Fellowship recipients also receive health insurance coverage through the Foundation
- Graduate Fellows are expected to remain in the United States for two academic years
Eligibility Criteria
- Must hold Belgian nationality
- Must demonstrate outstanding academic achievement
- Graduate Fellowship applicants must earn a bachelor's degree before activating the fellowship and apply to a two-year master's program in the United States
- Graduate Fellowship applicants must submit official transcripts demonstrating outstanding academic performance
- Graduate Fellowship applicants must demonstrate English proficiency through qualifying TOEFL or IELTS scores
- Graduate Fellowship applicants must submit qualifying GRE or equivalent graduate admission test scores
- Research Fellowship applicants must hold a bachelor's degree and have completed no more than one year of a master's program by July 1st
- Research Fellowship applicants must plan a non-credit research gap year at a United States institution
- Research Fellowship applicants must obtain an official invitation from a United States host institution
- Research Fellowship applicants must demonstrate strong English language proficiency
Application Process
- Apply for admission to eligible United States universities or research institutions well in advance
- Complete the BAEF fellowship application
- Submit official academic transcripts documenting outstanding academic achievement
- Provide required English language proficiency test scores
- Submit GRE or equivalent graduate admission test results if applying for a Graduate Fellowship
- Research Fellowship applicants must obtain and submit an official invitation from their United States host institution
- Submit all required application materials by the applicable deadlines and monitor communications regarding fellowship decisions
