The British American Foundation of Texas undergraduate award is intended for low income students and is intended to alleviate the financial burden of funding undergraduate education in Texas, whether at a 4 year or a 2 year public college.
Scholarship Details
- Funding is awarded for the Fall semester
- Open to students attending public two- or four-year colleges in Texas
- Scholarship funds are sent directly to the college and can be used for tuition and college-related expenses
- Recipients must attend an Awards Dinner in Houston on April 30th
Eligibility Criteria
- Must be a resident of Texas
- Must be aged between 17 and 25 as of August 1st
- Must be enrolled full-time at a Texas public college or university
- Must be pursuing a major in Science, Technology, Engineering, Math, or Business-related fields (e.g., Management, HR, Marketing, Finance, Accounting)
- Must come from a low-income household
- Must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 for current college students or 3.5 for high school seniors applying for freshman year
Application Process
- Complete the online scholarship application form
- Upload a redacted IRS Form 1040 (remove visible Social Security numbers)
- Upload an official or unofficial school transcript
- Upload your FAFSA or TAFSA report
- If a first-time applicant, write and upload a 400–450 word essay responding to: "Excluding financial need, what are the most significant challenges you expect to face while in college and how will you overcome these challenges?"
- Request a letter of recommendation from a teacher or counselor to be emailed from a school email address by 12:00 p.m. on March 31st
- Must attend the Awards Dinner in Houston on April 30th
Texas students currently at college or high school seniors may apply for funding for a first degree. Scholarships may be used for tuition and college-related expenses payable to the college. Funding will be sent directly to the college.
