The Sarasota Film Society awards the $2,000 Barbara Caras Memorial Scholarship for Film Studies to 5 Florida college students each year.
Scholarship Details
- The scholarship is renewable with re-application every year
- Merit-based with no consideration to financial need
Eligibility Criteria
- Reside in Sarasota or Manatee County
- Attending an accredited Florida college
- One full year of college already completed, minimum
- Major in:
- Creative writing
- Computer animation
- Film
- Illustration
- Motion design
- GPA of 2.75 or higher
Application Process
- Gather at least one sample of your work
- Write short answer responses on the following subjects:
- Personal history and career path
- Specific area of interest in film
- What film has had the most impact on your life
- A career-relevant experience or person that has inspired you
- Fill out the application online and upload all required documents
- Submit your completed application by the July 31st deadline
The Barbara Caras Memorial Scholarship for Film Students was established in honor of Barbara Caras, late president of the Sarasota Film Society. Recipients will carry on her legacy of charity and passion for accessible cinema.
