Scholarship Description

BCDI Foundation Scholarship Program The BCDI Foundation, through the generous support of our donors, offers The Green Family Scholarship for patients with bleeding and clotting disorders to further their education.

Scholarship Details

  • Up to five scholarships are awarded each year
  • Each scholarship is worth $1,500
  • Funds may be used toward tuition, books, and other course fees
  • Scholarships may be used at accredited vocational or trade schools, junior colleges, and four-year colleges or universities
  • Award funds are paid directly to the recipient's school after enrollment is confirmed
  • Applications for the next scholarship cycle open in January
  • Recipients are selected by the BCDI Foundation Scholarship Committee

Eligibility Criteria

  • Must be diagnosed with a congenital or acquired chronic bleeding disorder or congenital clotting disorder
  • Must have attended a scheduled visit at a federally recognized Hemophilia Treatment Center in Illinois within the 24 months preceding the application deadline
  • Applicants who are not current patients of the Bleeding and Clotting Disorders Institute must provide documentation of their qualifying diagnosis and Hemophilia Treatment Center appointment from their home treatment center
  • Must have a minimum GPA of 2.5
  • Must be enrolled or plan to enroll full time at an accredited vocational or trade school, junior college, or four-year college or university

Application Process

  1. Complete the BCDI Foundation Green Family Scholarship application.
  2. Submit an official academic transcript.
  3. Provide confirmation of the qualifying diagnosis from a Hemophilia Treatment Center.
  4. Submit a resume.
  5. Provide one recommendation from a representative of your current educational institution.
  6. Provide a second recommendation from an individual who is not related to you and can address your character and academic success.
  7. Write the required essay describing your educational plans and goals and explaining why you would be a strong scholarship recipient.
  8. Submit the complete application and all required materials by the published deadline.

The BCDI Green Family Scholarship will be paid directly to the school of the recipient’s choice upon confirmation that the student has enrolled. Each scholarship will be carefully selected by a committee that determines the recipient(s) of that scholarship.
