Scholarship Description

The John Bayliss Award is a scholarship administered by the Broadcast Education Association to support students preparing for careers in radio and audio media. The award recognizes students who demonstrate academic achievement and a commitment to excellence in electronic media.

Scholarship Details

  • One scholarship of $4,000 is awarded annually.
  • Recipients are announced by mid-December.
  • Scholarship funds are distributed during the following summer.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Must be a junior, senior, or graduate student at the time the scholarship is awarded.
  • Must attend a Broadcast Education Association member institution.
  • Must be pursuing studies leading to a career in radio or audio media.

Application Process

  1. Create a Broadcast Education Association profile before beginning the application.
  2. Obtain a complimentary membership code from your faculty advisor or by contacting the Broadcast Education Association if you are an undergraduate at a member institution.
  3. If you are a graduate student, contact the Broadcast Education Association to verify whether your school includes graduate membership.
  4. Complete and submit a single scholarship application through your Broadcast Education Association account.
  5. Eligible applicants will automatically be considered for all applicable Broadcast Education Association scholarships.

The Bayliss Foundation has been distributing scholarships to outstanding broadcast students for over 23 years. Each award is in the amount of $5,000. The number of scholarships awarded each year depend on the size of the endowment. In 2005, the Bayliss Foundation began a partnership with top communications schools nationwide in an effort to bring a strong radio presence to college campuses.
