The Belgian American Educational Foundation Fellowship supports U.S. students and researchers pursuing advanced study or research at a Belgian university or research institution. The primary purpose of the BAEF is to instill in Belgium as well as in the United States a deep respect and appreciation for the other’s country and people.
Scholarship Details
- Awards up to fifteen fellowships each academic year
- Provides a $32,000 stipend for master's and Ph.D. students and a $35,000 stipend for postdoctoral fellows
- Fellowships are non-renewable and may last up to 12 months
- Fellowships may begin between July 1 and the beginning of January of the following year
- Recipients must reside in Belgium during the fellowship period
Eligibility Criteria
- Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident
- Must plan to enroll in a Belgian master's, Ph.D., or equivalent professional degree program while holding the fellowship, or be enrolled in a U.S. graduate program and conduct research in Belgium related to the degree
- Applicants who already hold an equivalent degree and plan to conduct research in Belgium are eligible
- Postdoctoral applicants must have no more than two years of postdoctoral research experience by July 1 of the fellowship year
Application Process
- Complete the Belgian American Educational Foundation fellowship application form
- Prepare undergraduate and/or graduate transcripts
- Write a brief autobiographical statement
- Develop a detailed study or research plan
- Arrange for three letters of recommendation to be submitted separately by the recommenders
- Submit the completed application and all required supporting documents as PDF attachments via email to the Belgian American Educational Foundation
