Six $5,000 scholarships will be awarded to graduating high school students of color (African American, Latinx, Asian/Pacific Islander, Native American) who identify as agnostic, atheist, humanist, freethinker, and/or secular. The scholarship aims to support students who have demonstrated a commitment to humanist values and social change. Scholarships will be awarded in August.
Scholarship Details
- Six $5,000 scholarships available for graduating high school seniors.
- Scholarships are open to African American, Latinx, Asian/Pacific Islander, and Native American students.
- Applicants must identify as agnostic, atheist, humanist, freethinker, and/or secular.
Eligibility Criteria
- Preference given to students who are the first in their families to attend college.
- Students who are (or have been) in foster care, homeless, undocumented, disabled, and/or identify as LGBTQI+ are encouraged to apply.
- Applicants must have a record of service to and participation in school and/or community-based organizations.
- Applicants must provide a letter of recommendation from an advisor or teacher.
- Applicants must provide proof of admission to a two-year or four-year college.
Application Process
- Write a two-paragraph essay (500–700 words) addressing the following prompt:
- Why do you identify as non-religious/secular, and what humanist issue(s) are you passionate about addressing in your community?
- How might secular humanism create positive social change?
- What specific issues or causes have you addressed in your community that could be characterized as humanist?
- Obtain a letter of recommendation from an advisor or teacher (can include information about participation in school or community-based organizations).
- Provide a copy of your college admission letter to a two- or four-year college.
- Submit all required documents before the deadline of June 20th. Late or incomplete applications will not be considered.
