The Charlie C. Turman Scholarship Program was established to assist eligible students in McDuffie and Warren counties, to continue their pursuit of a secondary education in agriculture/agribusiness, HVAC, or mechanical at a trade school or technical school and to honor Mr. Charlie C. Turman. The scholarship is for $1,000 per academic year with a maximum award of $2,000 over two years and will be renewable for one consecutive year after the original award is made provided the student meets all the requirements for renewal.
The applicant must be a resident of McDuffie or Warren county and be a graduate of a high school located within one of the eligible counties. First consideration will be given to a student who needs financial assistance to continue his/her education in the pursuit of their chosen degree/career. Additional consideration shall be given to an applicant who will graduate with a 3.0 GPA or higher. The applicant shall have been active in community, church and/or extra-curricular activities.
The applicant must complete the application form provided by the Community Foundation for the CSRA and provide a letter of recommendation as well as an unofficial transcript. The applicant will also provide a narrative setting forth personal goals, reasons for going into chosen field of study, and plans after graduation from trade or technical school as well as explain the need for financial assistance and the benefit of receiving the scholarship. This narrative must be between 500-750 words.
