With the help of the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Somerset HIlls and private donors, we were able to offer scholarships in 2024 to students so that they can help increase diversity, acceptance and inclusion of LGBTQIA+ and people with mental health issues- in education, the workforce, and the world.
Scholarship Details
- Two scholarships awarded annually to NJ students
- Must demonstrate advocacy for LGBTQIA+ issues and experience with mental health challenges
- Scholarship supports post-secondary education, including college or trade school
Eligibility Criteria
- Must be a New Jersey resident
- Must be a high school senior
- Must plan to enroll in a college or trade school
- Must demonstrate advocacy for LGBTQIA+ issues
- Must have personal experience with mental health challenges or through someone close to them
- Volunteer or work experience in mental health or LGBTQIA+ organizations is preferred but not required
Application Process
- Prepare a cover letter including your full name, mailing and email addresses, current school name, and future academic plans.
- Create a 1-2 page essay or 2-4 minute video sharing your or a loved one’s journey with mental health, how it relates to LGBTQIA+ issues, and your plans to positively impact others.
- Optional: Include character references or photos of any art you have created.
- Submit your complete application via email to [email protected] before the deadline.
While not required, working or volunteering at organizations that increase mental health awareness, provide mental health support, or focus on LGBTQIA+ issues will be a plus on student applications.
