The Christopher Goughnour scholarship will help a Hispanic/Latino college freshman from any public or private high school in the United States. A statement of financial need can be submitted for students enrolling in technical or apprenticeship programs where a FAFSA was not submitted.
Scholarship Details
- $1,000 scholarship awarded to one student in September
- Funds are paid directly to the student’s college, technical school, or apprenticeship program
- Open to students pursuing healthcare-related education or training
- Targeted toward graduates from underserved communities
Eligibility Criteria
- Must be accepted to or enrolled in a college, technical school, or apprenticeship program in healthcare
- Must be a student from an underserved community
Application Process
- Obtain and provide proof of enrollment in a qualifying healthcare program
- Write a 500-word or less essay describing the challenges you’ve overcome and your journey toward higher education
- Write a description of your community involvement and service
- Secure one letter of recommendation from a counselor or teacher
- Email all required materials or mail them to Marie Maxey Foundation
Applicants must also submit: (1) proof of acceptance to college, technical school, or an apprenticeship program; (2) a 500-word or less essay describing how they plan to use their post-secondary education to provide a better future for themselves and their community; and (3) a letter of recommendation from a school counselor, teacher, administrator, or unrelated community member (a pastor, coach, local elected official, etc.).
