Scholarship Description

Each fall, COFEM invites students of Mexican descent who are also AB-540 and DACA recipients, undocumented, and/or members of its federations to apply for the scholarship. Applicants must be enrolled in an undergraduate program at a four-year accredited university or a two-year program at a community college.

Scholarship Details

  • Created by COFEM in 2008 to support students of Mexican descent
  • Scholarship awards: $500 for community college students and $1,000 for four-year university students
  • Focuses on AB-540 and DACA recipients, undocumented students, and members of COFEM’s federations
  • Has awarded over $400,000 in scholarships since inception
  • More than 400 students have been supported through this program
  • Applications open each fall

Eligibility Criteria

  • Must be of Mexican descent
  • Must be a first-generation college student
  • Open to students regardless of immigration status (including undocumented, AB-540, and DACA recipients)
  • Must demonstrate financial need and academic achievement
  • Must show commitment to community involvement
  • Must be enrolled in an undergraduate program at a two-year community college or a four-year accredited university

Application Process

  1. Complete the Mexican American Dream Scholarship application form during the fall application period
  2. Prepare and submit proof of enrollment at a community college or four-year university
  3. Provide transcripts demonstrating academic achievement
  4. Include documentation of financial need
  5. Highlight community involvement and leadership experiences in your application
  6. Submit all materials before the scholarship deadline to be considered

COFEM awards scholarships to outstanding students of Mexican descent in our community each year. The majority of our beneficiaries have struggled financially to reach their goal of pursuing higher education and have faced additional barriers due to their immigration status.
