Scholarship Description

The Calvin Coolidge Presidential Foundation hosts the Economic Essay Contest for high school and college students, with awards worth up to $10,000.

Eligibility Criteria

  • U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident
  • High school or college student
  • Not immediately related to a significant Coolidge Foundation donor

Application Process

  1. Create an account on the Coolidge Presidential Foundation website
  2. Compose an argumentative essay following the Foundation's guidelines:

    • Discuss whether the protectionist Jones Act of 1920 was successful
    • High school division essays should be fewer than 1,100 words
    • College division essays should be fewer than 1,500 words
    • Provide citations for your essay (which will not count towards the word limit)
  3. Use the application portal to submit your essay in advance of the deadline

Winners' essays will be published in the Coolidge Review, official magazine of the Coolidge Foundation.
