Scholarship Description

The mission of the Scholarship Program is to support exceptional students as they begin their college careers by recognizing outstanding academic achievement and helping reduce the financial barriers to higher education. The Dan Calugar Foundation awards ten Academic Achievement Merit Scholarships each year to incoming college freshmen.

Scholarship Details

  • Ten scholarships are awarded annually
  • Each scholarship award is valued at $15,000
  • Scholarship funds are applied toward college or university tuition
  • Funds are paid directly to the recipient’s college or university
  • Recognizes academic achievement, motivation, and educational goals

Eligibility Criteria

  • Must be a United States citizen
  • Must be a high school senior at time of application
  • Must achieve a minimum SAT score of 1500 on a single test administration
  • Must plan to enroll full-time at a U.S. college or university
  • Must submit a copy of SAT score results with the application
  • Must demonstrate strong academic achievement and well-defined educational and career goals

Application Process

  1. Prepare an application email after applications open on September 1st
  2. Include a statement describing your career objectives, goals, and how college will help you achieve them
  3. Prepare a well-reasoned essay addressing the scholarship's required topic concerning the federal debt-to-GDP ratio and related public policy considerations
  4. Attach a copy of your SAT score report demonstrating a score of at least 1500
  5. Indicate the year you plan to begin college in your application email
  6. Submit all application materials via email to the scholarship program
  7. If selected, provide a copy of your college admission letter so scholarship funds can be forwarded to the institution
  8. Monitor communications regarding scholarship review, selection, and award notifications

There will be 10 scholarships available beginning September 1st. We will begin accepting scholarship applications for high school seniors graduating next spring and entering college for the following Fall term. Accordingly, please do not submit new scholarship applications until September 1st. Typically, all ten scholarships are awarded by the end of September.
