Scholarship Description

The DAR, founded in 1890 and headquartered in Washington, D.C., is a non-profit, non-political volunteer women's service organization dedicated to promoting patriotism, preserving American history, and securing America's future through better education for children. As one of the most inclusive genealogical societies in the country, DAR boasts 190,000 members in 3,000 chapters across the United States and internationally. Any woman 18 years or older-regardless of race, religion, or ethnic background-who can prove lineal descent from a patriot of the American Revolution, is eligible for membership.

The Edward G. and Helen A. Borgens Teacher Scholarships are a one-time preferred amount of up to $1,500 awarded to two students who are twenty-five years of age or older. Applicants must be studying to teach at either the elementary or secondary school levels. Applicants must have at least a 3.5 GPA, be at least a college sophomore, and attend or plan on attending an accredited college or university. The awards are based on academic merit and are not automatically renewable, however, recipients may reapply for consideration as long as they meet the eligibility requirements.
