The David Barrett Memorial Scholarship is given biennially to recognize the work of an outstanding undergraduate or graduate student, enrolled in at least a three-year accredited program of interior design, who demonstrates a continuing interest and ability in utilizing classical designs (in alignment with Greek and Roman principles) and traditional materials, including furniture and fabrics.
Scholarship Details
- The scholarship is awarded biennially
- This offers awards of up to $12,000
- Applications run from February 15th to April 15th
Eligibility Criteria
- Applicants must be undergraduate or graduate students
- Applicants must be enrolled in an accredited interior design program that is at least three years in length
- Applicants must demonstrate a continuing interest in classical design principles
- Applicants must demonstrate the ability to use classical design and traditional materials in their design solutions
Application Process
- Prepare a design portfolio containing 8 to 12 pages of work that demonstrates your continued interest and ability to incorporate classical design and traditional materials into design solutions
- Write a portfolio statement of no more than 500 words explaining your design work and approach
- Prepare a personal statement that provides additional insight into your background, goals, and interest in interior design
- Obtain an unofficial academic transcript or alternate proof of enrollment
- Request a letter of recommendation from an appropriate recommender
- Prepare a biographical statement highlighting relevant personal, academic and design experience
- Provide a headshot as part of the application materials
- Review all materials to ensure they are complete and demonstrate your creativity, design abilities, and connection to classical design before submitting the application
Please be creative and innovative in how you translate this into your work. All project types will be accepted, including, but not limited to, workplace, civic, residential, hospitality, and historical restoration. Applications received after the deadline has passed will not be considered.
