The Dawn Stewart Memorial Scholarship is for students currently enrolled in their second, third, or fourth year of an accredited veterinary school who demonstrate an interest in camelid animal medicine. Scholarship funds will only be awarded to support education at U.S.-based institutions that offer a camelid (Alpaca) program or classes supporting alpaca animal health.
Scholarship Details
- Created to honor the legacy of Dawn Stewart, a dedicated alpaca advocate, by providing financial assistance to aspiring large animal veterinarians with a focus on camelids.
- Livestock breeders throughout the United States are experiencing a shortage of large animal veterinarians. Further, there is a great need for veterinarians who specialize in the care of camelids, specifically alpacas.
- The foundation is dedicated to continuous education for alpaca owners, breeders, and fiber enthusiasts, securing a promising future for the alpaca industry.
Eligibility Criteria
- Enrolled in the second, third, or fourth year of an accredited veterinary school.
- Demonstrate intent in camelid animal medicine, particularly alpacas.
- Must be a U.S. citizen.
Application Process
- Complete the online application available on the National Alpaca Foundation's website.
- Submit résumé, letters of reference, proof of enrollment, transcript, and essay.
- Ensure all application materials are postmarked by May 1st.
