Scholarship Description

The Dr. Alvin Ring Empowerment Scholarship for Laboratory Professionals, established through ASCP, supports students pursuing higher education in the medical laboratory sciences. This scholarship aims to assist students from medically-underserved and rural areas who are committed to serving their communities through their laboratory education and career.

Scholarship Details

  • Scholarship amounts range from $1,000 to $5,000
  • Funds may be used toward certification fees, direct academic tuition, or needs-based expenses
  • Estimated 8-10 scholarships will be awarded for the current application cycle
  • Application deadline: May 30th at 4:00 PM CST

Eligibility Criteria

  • Applicants must be U.S. citizens
  • Students from medically-underserved or rural areas are strongly encouraged to apply
  • Candidates should be in good academic standing and show a commitment to staying in the laboratory profession
  • Must fit into one of the following categories:
    • Current high school student starting in a NAACLS-accredited program in Phlebotomy (PBT), Medical Laboratory Assistant (MLA), Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT), Medical Laboratory Science (MLS), or Histotechnology (HTL) by August 31st
    • Current laboratory science student in a NAACLS-accredited program
    • Active student in a non-laboratory science field but starting in a NAACLS-accredited program by August 31st
    • Working professional (not an active student) starting in a NAACLS-accredited program by August 31st

Application Process

  1. Complete the online scholarship application
  2. Submit academic or professional reference letters vouching for your commitment to the laboratory profession
  3. Provide proof of acceptance or enrollment in a qualifying NAACLS-accredited program
  4. Submit a personal statement outlining your career goals and commitment to serving medically-underserved communities
  5. Application deadline: May 30th at 4:00 PM CST
