Scholarship Description

The Esperanza Education Fund awards a total of $20K - $50K in scholarships annually, depending on available funding. Esperanza selects approximately six-eight (6-8) scholarship recipients from a pool of 200+ applications each academic year.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Must have been born outside the U.S. or have two parents who were born outside the U.S.
  • Must be a graduating high school senior in D.C., Maryland, or Virginia, or have earned a GED within the past four years and reside in one of these areas
  • Must plan to enroll full-time at an accredited public two-year or four-year college or university in the U.S.
  • Must have a household income of less than $141,000

Application Process

  1. Complete and submit the Esperanza Education Fund online application by June 30th
  2. Submit required documentation, including transcripts, financial information, and personal statements
  3. Applications are reviewed by multiple judges for eligibility and quality
  4. Top 10–16 applicants will be invited for an interview with a panel of 5–7 judges
  5. Finalists (8–12 students) will be selected to receive scholarships based on need, merit, and interview performance

All eligible applications submitted by June 30 will be read by multiple judges. The top 10-16 applicants will be invited to interview. A panel of approximately five to seven judges will interview the finalists and select the top 8-12 to receive scholarships.
