Scholarship Description

The Eye-Bank together with the Fabian family commemorate his enduring legacy with the following STEM Scholarship to help a qualified student pursue higher education in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics – fields that Mr. Fabian considered essential to the advancement and benefit of today’s society.

Scholarship Details

  • $3,000 scholarship awarded annually
  • Open to undergraduate and graduate students in STEM programs
  • Must propose a STEM-based method to increase eye, organ, or tissue donations
  • Fields may include biology, engineering, computer science, healthcare, chemistry, and related disciplines
  • Applications due by May 15th

Eligibility Criteria

  • Must reside in The Eye-Bank’s service area: New York City, Long Island, or the lower Hudson Valley (Westchester, Rockland, Putnam, or Orange Counties)
  • Must be accepted to or enrolled in an accredited 2- or 4-year undergraduate or graduate STEM program
  • Must submit a written proposal (1,000 words) on how STEM can be applied to increase organ, eye, or tissue donations
  • Must provide two letters of reference from current school
  • Must submit an official transcript or acceptance letter from the college or university

Application Process

  1. Visit www.eyedonation.org/scholarship/stem to access the application
  2. Write a 3–4 page, double-spaced proposal (1,000 words) explaining how STEM can improve donation rates
  3. Include footnotes and a bibliography with your proposal
  4. Complete the online application form by May 15th
  5. Upload your proposal, two letters of reference, and official transcript or acceptance letter

Mr. Fabian was a highly-esteemed and dedicated member of The Eye-Bank’s Board of Directors for a total of 18 years, first as a Director, then serving as an officer until becoming President in 2015, a position he held until his passing in 2020. Throughout his tenure on the Board, he generously contributed his expertise toward guiding and supporting The Eye-Bank and its mission of providing individuals with the beautiful gift of sight through eye donation.
