The FBSA Merit Scholarship is merit-based and does not consider financial need. Eligible applicants must show excellent educational performance, outstanding character and resilience, and exemplary service to their community through participation in extracurricular activities and community service.
Scholarship Details
- Merit-based scholarships awarded annually
- Award amounts range from $500 to $5,000
- No student may receive more than two FBSA scholarships in a lifetime
Eligibility Criteria
- Dependent of a service member currently stationed at Fort Bliss, Texas
- Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0
- Completion of at least 10 volunteer hours during the current school year
- Applicants may apply in only one scholarship category per year
Application Process
- Complete the digital scholarship application in one sitting
- Upload verification of eligibility and academic transcripts
- Submit documentation verifying a minimum of 10 volunteer hours
- Provide two letters of recommendation from non-relatives
- Write and submit a 400 to 500 word original essay without AI assistance
- Include information about intended field of study and school of attendance
- Submit all materials by 11:59 p.m. on March 22nd
All spouses and dependents of Active Duty or Retired Military, Gold Star Families, GS Civilian Employees of all ranks in and around the El Paso area who are planning to enroll in, or are enrolled in: a two-year college (resident or online), a four-year college or university (resident or online), a graduate program, or vocational school should apply. Scholarship funds must be used by July 31st of next year.
