What would you grow if you were a Florida farmer? How would your farm support your community and local schools? Put your imagination to work in the 3rd Annual Florida Farm to School Essay Contest, hosted by the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (FDACS).
Scholarship Details
- Awards of up to $3,000 in college funds are available
- Open to Florida students in grades 9 through 12
- The essay topic is "If I Were a Farmer"
- Essays must contain between 500 and 800 words, excluding the title, references, and footnotes
- References and footnotes are not required
- Creative approaches are encouraged, provided the submission addresses the required topic and follows contest guidelines
- Recipients may receive recognition at the Florida Farm to School Conference
- The submission deadline is November 16th
Eligibility Criteria
- Must be a student in grades 9 through 12 in Florida
- Must submit an original essay addressing the assigned topic
- Must describe an imagined farm located in Florida
- Must explain what crops or agricultural products the farm would produce and why
- Must discuss how the farm would connect with and respond to the needs of the local community
- Must explain how the farm would benefit local schools and students
- Must follow all contest submission guidelines
Application Process
- Review the official Florida Farm to School Essay Contest rules and submission guidelines.
- Write an original essay of 500 to 800 words on the topic "If I Were a Farmer."
- Describe what you would grow or produce on your Florida farm and explain your choices.
- Discuss how your farm would support your community and positively impact local schools and students.
- Review your essay to ensure it meets the word count and all contest requirements.
- Submit your completed essay according to the official contest instructions by November 16th at 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time.
Creative approaches are encouraged! As long as your submission is an essay that addresses the above and meets the submission guidelines, how you tell the story is up to you. We want to read your original work. All essays will be screened for plagiarism and use of artificial intelligence (AI) software. Any plagiarism or use of AI detected will result in disqualification.
