Scholarship Description

The Catholic Community Foundation of Southwest Florida is proudly offering the “Frederick W. Schaerf, M.D., Ph.D. Neuroscience Scholarship”, an academic scholarship made possible through the Catholic Legacy of Dr. Schaerf and his loving family.

Scholarship Details

  • Scholarship award of approximately $4,000
  • Available to one graduating senior from Bishop Verot Catholic High School
  • Funds may be used for tuition, books, fees, and tutoring services
  • Housing and living expenses are not eligible
  • Offered through the Catholic Community Foundation of Southwest Florida

Eligibility Criteria

  • Must be a current high school senior at Bishop Verot Catholic High School in Fort Myers, Florida
  • Must be interested in pursuing a career in neuroscience or a related field
  • Must be accepted to an accredited college or university
  • Must demonstrate academic performance in high school
  • Must submit information on extracurricular activities including work, clubs, or teams
  • Must report total volunteer hours and describe volunteer activities

Application Process

  1. Complete the online scholarship application and financial needs assessment
  2. Write an essay explaining interest in neuroscience and future goals in the field
  3. Provide academic records demonstrating high school performance
  4. Submit details of extracurricular involvement and volunteer service
  5. Confirm acceptance to an accredited college or university

The scholarship can be used for tuition, books, fees and tutoring services (housing and living expenses are not eligible). *Members or relatives of the Catholic Community Foundation staff, Board of Directors, the Office of Catholic Schools, the Scholarship Committee or of Frederick and Melissa Schaerf are ineligible to apply.
