Scholarship Description

The FUEL Scholarship was established to empower current/former foster youth, who face significant barriers in accessing a college education, to earn college degrees. Our goal is to fund the gap between a student’s financial-aid awards and the actual cost of college, including tuition, housing and living expenses.

Scholarship Details

  • Provides support for current and former foster youth pursuing higher education
  • Offers flexible funding based on individual student need
  • Renewable annually for eligible recipients
  • Funds may be used for tuition, housing, and living expenses
  • Limited to students residing in Northern and Central California

Eligibility Criteria

  • Must have lived in foster care or been a ward of the state after age 13
  • Must be between the ages of 17 and 26 at the time of application
  • Must enroll full-time at a California college for the coming academic year
  • Must live in Northern or Central California

Application Process

  1. Confirm that you meet the foster care, age, and residency requirements
  2. Ensure you plan to enroll full-time at a California college for the coming academic year
  3. Review full eligibility details and county lists on the FUEL Scholars website
  4. Complete the scholarship application during the open period beginning February 15th
  5. Submit your application online no later than May 1st
