The FUEL Scholarship was established to empower current/former foster youth, who face significant barriers in accessing a college education, to earn college degrees. Our goal is to fund the gap between a student’s financial-aid awards and the actual cost of college, including tuition, housing and living expenses.
Scholarship Details
- Provides support for current and former foster youth pursuing higher education
- Offers flexible funding based on individual student need
- Renewable annually for eligible recipients
- Funds may be used for tuition, housing, and living expenses
- Limited to students residing in Northern and Central California
Eligibility Criteria
- Must have lived in foster care or been a ward of the state after age 13
- Must be between the ages of 17 and 26 at the time of application
- Must enroll full-time at a California college for the coming academic year
- Must live in Northern or Central California

Application Process
- Confirm that you meet the foster care, age, and residency requirements
- Ensure you plan to enroll full-time at a California college for the coming academic year
- Review full eligibility details and county lists on the FUEL Scholars website
- Complete the scholarship application during the open period beginning February 15th
- Submit your application online no later than May 1st
