Scholarship Description

The Garden Club of America (GCA) offers merit-based scholarships and fellowships in areas related to conservation, ecology, horticulture, and pollinator research. The Coastal Wetlands Studies scholarship promotes wetlands conservation through the support of young scientists in their field work and research.

Scholarship Details

  • One $5,000 scholarship awarded annually to a graduate student
  • Funds support field-based research in U.S. coastal wetlands
  • Application opens November 1 and closes January 15
  • Selected based on technical merit and alignment with wetlands conservation goals

Eligibility Criteria

  • Must be a graduate student enrolled at a U.S. university
  • Research must focus on coastal wetlands within U.S. coastal or Great Lake states
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident
  • Applicants may only apply to one GCA-sponsored scholarship per year

Application Process

  1. Complete the online application form, including a 500-character project summary
  2. Submit project information (maximum 5 pages) via email, detailing project goals, progress, and benefits to coastal wetlands
  3. Submit a 2-page vita with relevant experience, publications, and references via email
  4. Ensure a letter of endorsement from your major professor/advisor is sent directly to the GCA Award Committee by January 15th

Applications are reviewed by a selection committee of practicing wetland scientists at CCRM. The Garden Club of America selects the final award winners from the Center's nominees.
