Scholarship Description

The Generation Hope New Orleans Scholar Program supports teen parents as they pursue degrees through scholarships, mentoring, academic support, and other wrap-around services. This program also provides other numerous services to assist students. Eligible teen parents in the Greater New Orleans area can apply for comprehensive support designed to help them stay in college and graduate.

Scholarship Details

  • Provides $1,200 per year for students attending a 2-year college
  • Provides $2,400 per year for students attending a 4-year college
  • Matches each Scholar with a caring adult mentor who provides one-on-one support through graduation
  • Provides support from Generation Hope staff, including help accessing resources and managing crises
  • Offers training in life skills, career readiness, and other areas
  • Provides free tutoring as needed
  • Provides access to an Emergency Fund for financial crises
  • Provides access to mental health support for Scholars and their families

Eligibility Criteria

  • Must be a teen parent, defined as having been pregnant or expecting by age 19
  • Must be 25 or younger at the time of application
  • Must be raising or actively involved in the child's life through regular support and care
  • Must be attending or planning to attend a nonprofit college in the Greater New Orleans area beginning in the fall semester
  • Must be pursuing an associate or bachelor's degree
  • Must plan to take at least 6 credits each semester
  • Must live within 50 miles of the program city
  • Must maintain a GPA of 2.5 or above while participating in the program

Application Process

  1. Confirm that you meet the Generation Hope Scholar Program eligibility requirements
  2. Prepare your most recent high school or college transcript or GED certificate
  3. Prepare a copy of your Student Aid Report or proof of FAFSA submission, including your Student Aid Index, if applicable
  4. Prepare proof of identity, such as a driver's license, U.S. passport, Alien Registration Card, or school ID
  5. Obtain parent or guardian signatures if you are under 18, if applicable
  6. Complete and submit the Generation Hope Scholar application with the required documents
  7. If selected, participate in the required program activities, including mentoring, trainings, academic requirements, and Generation Hope events
