Hill Country Master Gardeners Association (HCMG), a non-profit, trained volunteer organization, a component of Texas AgriLife Extension Service, promotes volunteer education and service to the community. As part of our mission, HCMG is offering two $2,000 scholarships in horticultural science for the 2026-2027 academic year. It is our intention to provide financial support to two undergraduate or graduate students at Texas A&M, Texas Tech, Tarleton State or Stephen F. Austin State Universities.
Scholarship Details
- Two scholarships are awarded annually
- Each scholarship award is valued at $2,000
- Supports undergraduate and graduate students studying horticultural sciences
- Each award is distributed in two $1,000 installments during the fall and spring semesters
- Recipients may reapply for future scholarship awards
Eligibility Criteria
- Must be pursuing a degree in horticultural sciences
- Must be enrolled full-time at Texas A&M University, Texas Tech University, Tarleton State University, or Stephen F. Austin State University
- Must have junior standing or higher, with at least 60 completed credit hours
- Must maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0
- Must be a resident of Texas
- Preference is given to residents of Kerr, Kendall, Gillespie, Medina, Real, and Bandera Counties
- Recipients must remain full-time students and maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA to receive the second scholarship installment
- Availability to attend a Hill Country Master Gardeners meeting is helpful but not required
Application Process
- Complete the scholarship application in full
- Submit all required supporting documentation by May 31st
- Participate in an interview if requested by the scholarship committee
- If selected, provide documentation verifying continued full-time enrollment and a minimum 3.0 GPA before the second installment is distributed
- Applicants are notified of selection decisions by June 30th
Each award will be paid in two installments: $1,000 at the beginning of the fall semester and $1,000 at the beginning of the spring semester. The recipient is required to maintain an overall GPA of at least 3.0 and be a full-time student during each semester covered by the award. Proof that the recipient has met these standards will be required before the second semester scholarship installment is disbursed.
