To be eligible for the Historically Black College or University Scholarship, applicants must: have obtained at least a Second Semester Freshman status at an accredited four-year HBCU and be working toward a first Bachelor’s degree; show proof of graduation from a Chicago Metropolitan Area high school; have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale; and show proof of enrollment in an accredited HBCU before the scholarship is awarded. The number of recipients and the maximum dollar amounts will vary.
Scholarship recipients will be selected based on a combination of academic achievements, active participation in extracurricular and/or community service activities, written communication skills demonstrated in the required essay recommendation letters. Apart from the basic information, the application will ask for other things, including: work experience, extra-curricular activities, awards, two recommendation letters, a transcript, a personal essay and a media waver.
