The Hudson County Bar Foundation Scholarship supports qualified law students with demonstrated academic achievement and financial need. Scholarships will be awarded on an objective and non-discriminatory basis with regard to the race, creed, national origin, gender, sexual preference or sexual identity of any applicant.
Scholarship Details
- Open to Hudson County residents pursuing a law degree
- Applicants must be enrolled in or admitted to an accredited ABA approved law school at the time of the interview
- Awards are granted at the discretion of the Scholarship Committee
- Scholarships are awarded on an objective and non discriminatory basis
Eligibility Criteria
- Must be a resident of Hudson County and provide proof of residency
- Must be enrolled in or admitted to an accredited ABA approved law school at the time of the interview
- Must submit a complete and accurate application with all required supporting documents
- Must participate in a mandatory virtual interview if selected
- Must comply with all formatting and submission requirements
Application Process
- Complete all relevant sections of the scholarship application, ensuring responses are printed or typed and the application is signed
- Prepare and include proof of Hudson County residency such as a driver’s license, tax bill, or utility bill
- Submit official transcript documentation, including undergraduate transcripts for first year law students and first semester law school grades if available
- Write a typed, double spaced personal statement not exceeding two pages addressing required topics including your decision to attend law school, choice of law school, role of lawyers in society, impact of the scholarship, school and community activities, career goals, and intent to practice in Hudson County
- Include a financial aid confirmation letter from your law school or documentation indicating ineligibility for financial aid
- Provide a copy of your most recent Federal 1040 tax form and, if applicable, your spouse’s most recent Federal 1040 tax form, or a written explanation if no return was filed
- Arrange for two signed and dated letters of recommendation addressing academic achievement, professional skills, and community service to be emailed to staff@hcbalaw.com
- Email the complete application and all required supporting documentation to staff@hcbalaw.com with the subject line 2026 Scholarships no later than March 31st
If a scholarship is awarded to you it is awarded conditioned upon your attendance to the scholarship award ceremony unless excused by the committee. We have set aside the date of June 25th for the dinner at 6:00 PM location to be determined.
