The Idaho Chapter of the American Fisheries Society established the Douglas J Megargle Memorial Scholarship in 2024 with the intention of continuing Doug’s legacy of mentoring and encouraging the growth of fisheries and aquatic scientists.
Scholarship Details
- Scholarship Amount: $2,500
- Supports graduate students enrolled at Idaho colleges
- Preference given to students involved with the Idaho Chapter of the American Fisheries Society or its student sub-units
Eligibility Criteria
- Must be a graduate student enrolled at an Idaho college as of January 31st of the scholarship award year, or have been involved with the Idaho Chapter or its student sub-units
- Professional goals must align with the mission of the American Fisheries Society
Selection Criteria
- Involvement with the Idaho Chapter and student sub-units
- Alignment of professional goals with the American Fisheries Society's mission
- Relevant coursework completed
- GPA
- Work experience with fish or aquatics
- Examples of dedication or tenacity in fisheries and aquatic resources
- A single scholarship recommendation from a biology professor, faculty advisor, school administrator, or supervisor
Application Process
- Complete and submit the application form available at the scholarship website
- Indicate in Section 8 if you are also applying for the Susan B. Martin Mentoring Scholarship
- Obtain a copy of your college transcripts (unofficial transcripts are acceptable) and email them
- Identify a reference (biology professor, faculty advisor, school administrator, or supervisor) who will complete the Scholarship Recommendation Form
- Ensure the recommendation form is submitted by your reference, especially if applying for both scholarships
Winners will be announced during the business luncheon at the annual meeting of the Idaho
Chapter of the American Fisheries Society. Winners will be notified directly if they are not present at the
business luncheon. The funds associated with this scholarship are distributed immediately, once the
scholarship has been awarded.
