Scholarship Description

The scholarship carries a stipend of up to US$24,000 and is awarded via a trust for which the IEEE Foundation serves as trustee. This scholarship is awarded annually for one year of full-time graduate work in electrical engineering at an engineering school of recognized standing located in the US.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Must be a resident of the United States
  • Must have majored in electrical engineering
  • Must hold a bachelor’s degree from an engineering college of recognized standing
  • Must be a full-time first-year graduate student pursuing a Master’s degree
  • Doctoral students are eligible only if it is their first graduate degree
  • Students in combined BS and MS programs may apply during the penultimate year for use in the final year
  • Must pursue full-time graduate work in electrical engineering

Application Process

  1. Complete the full scholarship application form during the application period beginning February 1, 2026
  2. Submit certified transcripts from all colleges and universities attended
  3. Obtain three letters of recommendation from college or university professors familiar with your work
  4. Ensure recommendation letters clearly include the reference’s name, title, and address

The Charles LeGeyt Fortescue Scholarship was established in 1939 as a memorial to Charles LeGeyt, in recognition of his valuable contributions to the field of electrical engineering. Applications open February 1st and are due May 4th.
