The scholarship carries a stipend of up to US$24,000 and is awarded via a trust for which the IEEE Foundation serves as trustee. This scholarship is awarded annually for one year of full-time graduate work in electrical engineering at an engineering school of recognized standing located in the US.

Eligibility Criteria
- Must be a resident of the United States
- Must have majored in electrical engineering
- Must hold a bachelor’s degree from an engineering college of recognized standing
- Must be a full-time first-year graduate student pursuing a Master’s degree
- Doctoral students are eligible only if it is their first graduate degree
- Students in combined BS and MS programs may apply during the penultimate year for use in the final year
- Must pursue full-time graduate work in electrical engineering
Application Process
- Complete the full scholarship application form during the application period beginning February 1, 2026
- Submit certified transcripts from all colleges and universities attended
- Obtain three letters of recommendation from college or university professors familiar with your work
- Ensure recommendation letters clearly include the reference’s name, title, and address
The Charles LeGeyt Fortescue Scholarship was established in 1939 as a memorial to Charles LeGeyt, in recognition of his valuable contributions to the field of electrical engineering. Applications open February 1st and are due May 4th.
