Scholarship Description

The David E. Ballard Scholarship, supported by Inherit the Music, provides a $10,000 award to undergraduate students who have experienced homelessness or been part of the foster care system. This scholarship aims to support students pursuing careers in live entertainment, including fields such as music business management, production, live event operations, and hospitality.

Scholarship Details

  • Scholarship amount: $10,000
  • Awarded to students pursuing careers in live entertainment
  • Paid directly to an accredited college or university
  • Distributed in two equal payments of $5,000 across two academic semesters

Eligibility Criteria

  • Must be a full-time undergraduate student with a declared major
  • Must be enrolled at an accredited U.S. college or university
  • Must be pursuing a career in live entertainment, such as music business management, production, or hospitality
  • Must have experienced homelessness in the last four years and/or been part of the foster care system after age sixteen
  • Must be a permanent U.S. resident
  • Must have a cumulative GPA of 2.75 or higher

Application Process

  1. Complete and submit the Scholarship Application Form
  2. Provide a student copy of college transcript to verify GPA
  3. Submit a resume or CV
  4. Provide proof of enrollment from the educational institution
  5. Submit two letters of recommendation from industry professionals or instructors
  6. Provide proof of dependency letter or an Independent Student Status Form from an approved authority
  7. Write a 500-word essay describing how experiences with homelessness and/or foster care have influenced career goals in live entertainment
  8. If selected, submit a final impact essay at the end of the school year detailing progress toward career goals
