The J and K Climate Change Scholarship is a $2,000 award created to inspire students to take meaningful action against climate change. Half of the scholarship goes directly to the recipient’s institution for tuition and school-related expenses, while the other half is paid directly to the student for living or personal use. Whether you’ve already taken impactful steps or have bold ideas to address the climate crisis, this scholarship offers a platform to showcase your work and receive financial support.
Scholarship Details
- Total award amount of $2,000, split equally between the recipient and their school
- More than one applicant may receive the scholarship, with funds divided equally
- Application deadline is July 15th
- Winner will be notified by September 1st
- Funds will be distributed on September 15th, for the coming academic year
- The winning submission will be shared publicly
Eligibility Criteria
- Must be enrolled at least half-time in an accredited degree program in Oregon
- Includes public community colleges, universities, and private degree-granting institutions authorized in Oregon
- Out-of-state students must provide proof of Oregon residency
- Must be age 18 or older at the time of signing the application
- Winners must arrange for their institution to verify current enrollment
Application Process
- Prepare a submission that presents either:
- A Big Activity: describe an action you’ve taken to fight climate change
- Or a Big Idea: outline a plan for how students can address climate change
- Choose your format:
- A video under 7 minutes suitable for sharing online
- Or a written discussion of 1,000 to 2,000 words in PDF format
- Submit your presentation by July 15th
- Make sure your submission is clear and engaging—judges value both logic and style
- Be prepared to provide additional information if requested
As donors of the funds for this scholarship, we enjoy the privilege of choosing the winner. We will choose a winner from all eligible submissions, whether in video or written format. We may seek additional information from applicants regarding their submission before making a final decision. We will select the winner after considering the benefit to the planet of the submission, the feasibility of any proposed plan, the overall presentation quality, and other factors.
