Scholarship Description

The JWOF "Powerful Women…Next Generation" 4-Year Scholarship supports first or second-generation Jamaican-American female high school seniors graduating from a Florida high school and planning to attend a post-secondary institution. Valued at $5,000, this scholarship helps cover tuition, books, and other college expenses, empowering young women to achieve their educational goals.

Scholarship Details

  • Scholarship Value: $5,000 over four years
  • Supports tuition, books, and other college-related expenses
  • Awarded to a first or second-generation Jamaican-American female graduating from a Florida high school

Eligibility Criteria

  • Must be a first or second-generation Jamaican-American female
  • High school senior graduating from a Florida high school
  • Planning to attend a post-secondary institution in the Fall
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 (verified by school transcript)
  • Minimum of 40 hours of volunteer work in community projects

Application Process

  1. Complete an essay (800 to 1,000 words) on the following prompt: "Reflect on the influence of a Jamaican woman (e.g., mother, grandmother, mentor) and how her strength inspires you."
  2. Submit a high school transcript showing a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher
  3. Provide proof of community service (at least 40 hours)
  4. Include two letters of recommendation (one from a teacher, guidance counselor, or administrator)
  5. Submit a resume and personal contact information (name, date of birth, address, telephone, email)
  6. Successful applicants will be notified in February

Scholarship recipient is expected to be in attendance at the Jamaican Women of Florida’s Annual Women Empowerment Conference on March 28th. JWOF’s goal is to subsidize the cost of tuition, books or other college-related expenses incurred at the institution.
