The Dr. Julius B. Flynn, Jr. Memorial Scholarship Fund was created to promote excellence in the areas of leadership and community service in the Cheyney University student and alumni population, and to provide career-minded students the opportunity to develop academically and professionally.
Scholarship Details
- Created in memory of Dr. Julius B. Flynn, Jr., a longtime professor at Cheyney University
- Promotes excellence in leadership and community service among Cheyney students and alumni
- Scholarship fund has awarded $15,000 over the past three years
- Works toward establishing an endowment to continue supporting future students
Eligibility Criteria
- Must be a full-time undergraduate or graduate student currently attending Cheyney University
- Must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale
- Must have verifiable volunteer experience within the past two years
- Must demonstrate membership or leadership experience in campus or other organizations
- Must be committed to mentoring and promoting Cheyney University’s mission and values
Application Process
- Confirm that you are a full-time student currently enrolled at Cheyney University
- Ensure you meet the minimum GPA requirement of 3.0 or higher
- Gather documentation of volunteer service completed within the past two years
- Prepare details of your leadership or organizational involvement
- Complete the scholarship application form
- Write a one-page essay explaining how you will mentor a Cheyney University student and promote the university’s mission and values in your professional career
- Submit all required materials by the scholarship deadline
In connection with scholarship grants, The JBF Memorial Scholarship Fund shall contact Cheyney University administrators to promote the availability of scholarship grants and to request that these administrators encourage potential awardees to submit applications. The JBF Memorial Scholarship Fund Selection Committee shall notify the chosen scholarship recipient(s) of its decision. The scholarship payment will be made at our annual fundraising brunch.
