Scholarship Description

JETAANC established a university scholarship award in 2002, for high school seniors who are headed to an accredited college or university. The JETAANC scholarship is open to students within JETAANC’s geographic area, namely Nevada and the 48 northernmost Californian counties.

Scholarship Details

  • One non-renewable scholarship of up to $3,500
  • Funds are sent directly to the recipient’s college or university
  • Supports enrollment beginning in the comingFall

Eligibility Criteria

  • Must be a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident
  • Must be a graduating high school senior
  • Must plan to enroll full-time in an accredited 2- or 4-year college or university
  • Must reside in Northern California (specific counties) or Nevada
  • Must demonstrate a sustained interest in Japan (at least one year of study or related activity)

  • Academic achievements and interests
  • Leadership and community involvement
  • Letters of recommendation
  • Application essay responses
  • Financial need (may be considered)

Application Process

  1. Complete the online application form.
  2. Submit an application essay.
  3. Upload recent academic transcripts.
  4. Provide two letters of recommendation on official letterhead.
  5. Optionally include a resume.
  6. Submit all materials by April 19th.

The JETAANC serves as a support network and resource for returning JET Program participants in their transition to the Northern California area, and also provides assistance in the recruitment and orientation of new participants of the JET Program for the Consulate General of Japan, San Francisco. Furthermore, the organization works to promote and support a deep understanding of Japanese culture by organizing and participating in Japan-related events.
