The Jim Dempsey Foundation "Doc Dempsey" Scholarship honors James "Doc" Dempsey, who prized higher education. Jim Dempsey worked hard to put his wife through law school, help his daughter with her education leading to a doctorate in psychology, and finally in the last years before his death go on to earn his own college degree. He ended up taking out many loans to assist along the way. We know what kind of hardships being a student in the US can create – and especially graduate students who are often expected to complete low or no reimbursement internships or residencies. Therefore, this Scholarship is offered to students pursuing degrees in the helping professions.
