The John and Abigail Adams Scholarship is a merit-based program that provides a credit toward tuition for up to eight semesters of undergraduate education at a Massachusetts state college or university. For this scholarship, merit is based on student scores on the 10th grade Massachusetts Comprehensive Assessment System (MCAS) test.

Eligibility Requirements
- Physically reside in Massachusetts for at least one year prior to enrollment
- Be a U.S. citizen, permanent resident, or authorized non-citizen under Title IV regulations
- Enroll full-time in a certificate, associate’s, or bachelor’s degree program at an eligible institution
- Must not hold a prior bachelor’s degree or equivalent
- Complete the FAFSA or Massachusetts equivalent (MASFA)
- Must not be in default on any federal or state student loans or owe a refund for previous financial aid
Application Process
- Take the 10th grade MCAS test and meet the score requirements
- Ensure residency and citizenship requirements are met
- Submit the FAFSA or MASFA to determine financial eligibility
- Apply and enroll full-time at an eligible Massachusetts public college or university
Recipients of the John and Abigail Adams Scholarship are eligible for an award of a merit-based credit toward tuition. Individual student awards at State Universities and Community Colleges shall be no more than the resident undergraduate tuition rate at the participating institutions.
