QueensCare, a faith-based nonprofit providing healthcare to low-income residents of Los Angeles County, is pleased to announce the establishment of the John Joseph Brandlin Memorial Scholarship Fund (“The Brandlin Scholarship Fund” or “the Fund”). The Brandlin Scholarship Fund honors the contributions of J. J. Brandlin throughout his 32 years of service to and management of QueensCare.
Scholarship Details
- Administered by QueensCare to promote careers in healthcare and service to underserved populations
- Total annual award distribution: $250,000
- Provides one four-year scholarship for a student attending the University of Illinois, Champaign
- Provides one-year renewable scholarships for undergraduate and graduate students attending accredited colleges and universities in California (for up to four years)
- Individual awards of up to $10,000 per year based on financial need and academic performance
- Eligible healthcare disciplines are determined by the QueensCare Board of Directors
Eligibility Criteria
- Must be pursuing a degree or certification in a healthcare-related field (e.g., medical assistant, nurse, physician, or other allied health professions)
- Must demonstrate financial need
- Must reside in California and attend an accredited college or university in California, or attend the University of Illinois, Champaign
- Minimum GPA requirements:
- 2.5 for community college students
- 3.0 for undergraduate students
- 3.25 for graduate students
Application Process
- Access the QueensCare website or scholarship portal to obtain the application form
- Complete the application in full, including financial documentation and academic transcripts
- Submit letters of recommendation and any additional materials requested by the QueensCare Scholarship Committee
- Ensure all materials are submitted before the specified deadline to be considered for funding
- Await notification of selection and instructions for scholarship disbursement
Limited loan repayment awards may be available to healthcare professionals who are repaying a student loan and employed at a healthcare facility serving the underserved in Los Angeles County. Awards are available for up to $10,000 a year for a maximum of four years. The Board of Directors of QueensCare shall select all recipients without regard to age, gender, religion, national origin, race, sexual orientation, or receipt of public assistance.
