Are you an academically strong Japanese American high school senior (or a Japanese American transfer student from a 2-year community college) and from a financially challenged household? If so, we might be able to help with some of your college expenses that are not covered by your private and governmental financial aid.
Scholarship Details
- Two scholarships awarded annually
- Award amount: $5,000 each
- Additional $3,000 second-year award available for qualifying recipients
- Supports students attending accredited U.S. four-year colleges or universities
Eligibility Criteria
- Must identify as Japanese American and/or be at least 50% Japanese ancestry
- Must be a U.S. citizen
- Must be a graduating high school senior or junior transfer student from a two-year community college
- Must have been awarded a Federal Pell Grant
- Must have a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher, or explain special circumstances if below 3.5
- Must enroll full-time in a bachelor’s degree program
Application Process
- Complete the scholarship application during the application window.
- Provide proof of Federal Pell Grant eligibility through the FAFSA Submission Summary.
- Submit academic transcripts showing cumulative GPA.
- Demonstrate academic achievement, leadership, and personal strengths through the application materials.
- Submit all required documentation before the application deadline.
Applicants should ideally have an outstanding academic record, demonstrate leadership ability, have impressive personal and interpersonal skills and consistently go above and beyond the classroom course work of high school. If you believe you are all of the above, we encourage you to apply.
