Kids’ Chance of Maine is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that provides scholarships for children of workers that have been seriously injured or killed in a compensable work-related accident or occupational disease. Scholarships are awarded once a year and students may apply every year for which they are eligible.
Scholarship Details
- Scholarship awards range from $1,000 to $5,000
- Supports students pursuing postsecondary education in Maine
- Available for two-year colleges, four-year universities, and technical schools
- Designed for children of workers seriously injured or killed in work-related incidents
- Applicants may attend school full-time or part-time
Eligibility Criteria
- Must be between 16 and 22 years old at the time of application
- Must be a dependent child of a worker seriously injured or killed in a compensable work-related accident or occupational disease
- The employer must fall under the jurisdiction of the Maine Workers’ Compensation Board
- Must demonstrate financial need for postsecondary education
- Must be accepted or enrolled at an accredited two-year or four-year college, university, or technical school
- Must be pursuing a degree as a full-time or part-time student
- Students attending a college or university must complete the FAFSA
Application Process
- Complete the application with student, family, and school contact information
- Submit an unofficial or official transcript showing your most recent grades
- Provide a copy of your FAFSA Submission Summary with your Student Aid Index if attending a college or university
- Write a brief description of your education and career goals
- Include documentation establishing the compensable work-related injury, illness, or death
- Provide basic employer information and a brief description of the incident
- Submit all required materials according to the scholarship instructions
