Scholarship Description

Laughing at My Nightmare, a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, is committed to empowering individuals with muscular dystrophy, helping them achieve their dreams. We offer financial assistance for adaptive equipment, assistive technology, and scholarships, thereby encouraging individuals to pursue their educational goals.

Scholarship Details

  • Annually, 1-2 individuals with muscular dystrophy will receive a scholarship covering tuition, fees, and course materials for an undergraduate or graduate degree at an in-state public university.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Must be living with muscular dystrophy.
  • Applying for an undergraduate or graduate degree at an in-state public university. Consideration for private or out-of-state institutions will be on a case-by-case basis, with a preference for public, in-state options.

Application Process

  1. Complete an online application.
  2. Provide proof of household financials (e.g., tax return, SSI/SSDI documentation).
  3. Submit proof of muscular dystrophy diagnosis on a doctor's letterhead.
  4. Include an official letter of acceptance from a US college or university.
  5. Attach official transcripts from the most recently completed educational institution (e.g., high school, college, GED).
  6. Detail any other approved financial aid or funding for educational pursuits.
  7. If applicable, share information about assistance from Occupational Vocational Rehabilitation (OVR) or Division of Vocational Rehabilitation (DVR).
  8. Complete narrative questions in typed, video, or audio format. Access to narrative questions is provided on the application platform.
