The LGBTIQ+ OUTbio Scholarship aims to encourage young adults within the LGBTQ+ community to pursue careers in STEM, particularly in the life sciences. Established by OUTbio, the biotech industry's largest LGBTQ+ professional group, this scholarship supports students who have demonstrated leadership and commitment to advancing LGBTQ+ diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Scholarship Details
- Open to graduating high school students or active students attending a 2-year or 4-year college, technical, or vocational school in New England
- Funds can be used for tuition and other educational expenses
- Preference given to students pursuing careers in life sciences or STEM fields
Eligibility Criteria
- Must be 18 or older at the time of the award
- Minimum GPA of 3.0 or GED equivalent
- Pursuing a degree in a life science discipline or aiming for a STEM-supporting career
- Enrolled or accepted at an accredited secondary college or university in New England
Application Process
- Gather all required documents, including:
- Contact and demographic information
- High school and undergraduate information
- Achievements, honors, and awards
- Volunteer work and employment history
- Essay (300 words maximum)
- One letter of recommendation (not from a family member)
- Complete the online application form
- Submit application and all required documents by the July 10th deadline
Applicants will be ranked based on their academic and extracurricular history, intended field of study, and quality of essay responses. Finalists will be invited to be interviewed by members of the Scholarship Selection Committee. Scholarship winner(s) will be selected and notified by August 14th.
